Reversi (Othello) is a game for two players, using pieces coloured black on one side and white on the other. The idea is to turn your opponent's pieces to your own colour, thereby either removing your opponent completely, or getting to the end of the game with the most pieces left. The web page for this game features full instructions. Reversi was invented in England in the 19th Century, and rediscovered more recently by the Japanese Goro Hasegawa. His father was a scholar, and remarked on the similarity between the swift reversal of fortunes in the game and the Shakespeare play Othello.
